and creating change.

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves stuck in a holding pattern. A decade passes with little change: we haven't moved toward our true dreams, while those around us sail by. We start to feel like: maybe the dreams we used to hold for ourselves… weren’t really meant for us. Or worse: maybe we’re just not good enough.

To shield ourselves from the pain, we learn to lower our aspirations. We try something else. We tune out and perform as if we were happy, telling ourselves that if we just stay the course- or do what's expected of us- eventually we’ll be rewarded. 

Sooner or later, we admit that we're stuck. We notice we avoid opportunities out of fear, or repeatedly land in a bad situation, or can't seem to thwart distraction. As we look ahead the finish line of our career, we realize that at this rate, we won't finish how we'd hoped.

If we're lucky, it begins to dawn on us… setting our dream aside didn't work, and it's time to find a way to write a new story. For the sake of our fulfillment, we can seize this opportunity- to admit what we really want, and brave the process of creating real change. 

It's also about making what seems impossible... workable.

Our common cultural approach to creating change comes with an attitude of… just do it! What’s the big deal! Put yourself out there! Set that fear aside and go for it!

Those adages may work for some things, but for others they're overly simplistic. When it comes to unconscious patterns we've been carrying around for decades, undoing them isn’t a matter of willpower. (In fact, pushing ourselves via willpower and self-judgment can cause more harm.) 

What’s actually needed is to recover to who we really are- and our natural abilities- with lots of love and compassion, learn to see through the fiction of our inner nay-sayers that led us astray in the first place, and develop the skills to truly support ourselves toward success. 

The good news is, dissolving this pattern is doable and moving forward is deeply enriching not to mention liberating!

How It Works

1.

We look at what you're wanting to create in your life, no matter how impossible it may seem, and design your coaching goal around it. This can be an intrinsic goal (e.g. I want to more work/life balance), or it can be extrinsic (e.g. I want to finally write a book).

2.

There are 3 phases to this coaching. You will 1) learn how to see and unhook from the pattern that has stopped you until now 2) develop new confidence to take on challenges you'd have previously avoided, and 3) methodically create new outcomes and embrace success.

3.

We will coach 1:1 over 6 months, meeting twice per month. You’re free to purchase additional sessions if you prefer more time. Each week we will design homework between sessions to move you closer to your goal. 

4.

We meet by phone or zoom, depending on your preference. We'll also create momentum by using a shared project page where you can upload exercises and any other artifacts relevant to your creative/change process. 

Three Phases to Creating Real Change


Phase 1: emancipating yourself

In the first phase of our coaching, we’ll take a magnifying glass to this pattern you’re in, so that you can see it clearly and get out from under it. This creates new freedom, relief, renewed motivation, and hope. I help you answer questions like: 

  1. How did I get here? 
  2. Why is doing x so hard for me, when it really shouldn't be? 
  3. How do I unhook from this pattern? 
  4. How do I get my confidence back, or create it for the first time?

When you can accurately describe what's happening and and why- in a way that resonates as deep relief- you have no need to continue this pattern.  At the same time, you reveal a way forward.

Phase 2: supporting change

In the next phase, you'll apply what you've learned to embracing new challenges. You'll identify steps that will move you toward your desired goal, and address them one by one. You'll answer questions like: 

  1. What does a path to creating what I want look like?
  2. What do I actually need to focus on?
  3. How do I move through the things that scare me?
  4. How do I maintain belief in myself? 

This is the process of building new skills, ones that will enable you to relate to challenges in a whole new way. It's less about strategy, and more about responsibility. All visions require us stay actively engaged in our creative process, and here you'll learn how.

phase 3: Sustaining new outcomes

In the final phase, you’ll watch those actions you took in the previous phase create new outcomes. You'll re-orient yourself to the future in a way that has you embracing success and being able to hold it. You'll answer questions like: 

  1. Am I really worthy of getting what I want? 
  2. Now that I've dissolved this pattern, what does it mean?
  3. How do I honor my past and also embrace my new future? 
  4. Who am I becoming and what is it time to accept? 

Success is vulnerable and we often resist it, because we aren't willing to be fully responsible for it. Here’s where you get to teach yourself what it means to have good things happen, to receive more than you thought you could. 

BONUS MODULE: HOW TO DISSOLVE STICKY, RECURRING PATTERNS

When we're stuck, we're usually coming up against a pattern in our life. It's easy to think you're fated to stay there, but that's not true! Patterns ask us to look a little deeper at the parts of us who need love, attention, recognition, permission, and safety. Love and awareness can heal, and allow new chapters to begin. This module will help you see the reason your pattern exists, and how to heal it.

This program is right for you if:

Who is this program right for?

This program is great for:

-Emotionally sensitive, intuitive, creative or spiritual types, who want more than what they're experiencing now. 

-People who feel they've been stuck in a pattern of work experiences that leave them drained and disconnected from themselves.

-People who are curious about what's holding them back, and wanting to get to the bottom of it. 

This program is not a good fit for:

-People looking for career strategy, but who don't acknowledge a relationship between this and their inner growth.

Clients who do well with me are clear that they have a personal need for growth. They've experienced repetitively getting stuck, and they know they have things to work through in order to create what they want. They understand it will take courage, but they’re willing to take an honest look at it all, with the right support. They intuitively know this as key to creating freedom and happiness.

What kind of structure will you offer in this coaching?

I will introduce skills and tools throughout our coaching as they become relevant to your needs. Some will include reflection questions, and some will simply be new practices for you to try.

Each session, we create your 'homework' together; this is meant to keep you engaged and in forward motion between calls. For clients who are using this process to help them tackle a big creative or professional challenge, homework might be action-oriented, using a particular focus that we've explored in order to create success.

What if I'm so stuck you can't help me?

Many of my clients come to me when they’ve hit rock bottom. They really aren’t feeling like themselves. When these clients had their initial consultation, I helped them to see that they’re not ‘beyond help’. They’re just suffering the kind of symptoms (exhaustion, doubt, or anxiety) that are typical of someone who’s working hard to adapt to a job that’s just the wrong fit. 

When we have our initial conversation, we'll both get a sense for if I can help you. If I think you need a different kind of help than I can offer, I'll be honest with you and share any recommendations regarding how you might move forward.

How do we meet? Is it ok if I live outside the U.S.?

We meet by phone or zoom, so as long as we can find a time that works in each of our time zones, we can meet. 

I've done coaching that hasn't worked. How do I know yours will? 

Because this coaching work is done on a one-to-one basis, I find that there’s no wiggling out of it. Not only that, but our conversations help you address any fears that may have you resisting moving forward. Clients who have tried online programs before this program have found what they need in this work, and have made the discoveries and changes they want. 

That said, it's up to you to stay in the process, and to communicate what you need. If you fear you may lack the right commitment, this is something we can talk through before you sign onto to the program. We can help discern together whether the timing is right for you.

Do you give homework I can complete, or do I just show up for sessions?

This program involves reading and reflection questions (and supplemental exercises) between each session. You’re free to dive in as deeply as you want, and in a way that will serve you most. 

What if I need more than six months to create change? 

You can always purchase additional sessions, or an additional package of sessions so that you can complete this process at your own pace. 

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 1 hour long, with the exception of your first session, which is 90 minutes.

Rich's Story

Reviving and learning to support a longstanding creative vision.

During the pandemic, my work dried up, which made me really look at the kind of jobs I had been doing.  I was stuck in a pattern that no longer fulfilled me (if it ever did), and was undercharging for my services.  I wasn’t making time for my own creative work, partly because I didn’t see the value in it.  I knew I needed help, and remembered that Julie's coaching had been a great support to me during a transitional time earlier in my career.

Julie helped me discover the emotional roots of my hesitancy to put myself out there as well as my scarcity mindset.  She encouraged me to create little reminders to myself and helped brainstorm ways that I could make more money while also opening space for my personal work.
